(I) An international team of researchers has finished a study of the spread of HIV in Africa.
(II) Safe sex education needs to be targeted at women and men in countries such as Kenya and
Zambia. (III) The results show that teenage women and girls in Africa are up to six times as
likely to be infected with HIV as males of the same age. (IV) Their findings also suggests that
the AIDS epidemic in Central and East Africa is being caused by older men infecting young
girls, who then pass the virus onto their children. (V) In the worst affected regions, up to half of
all pregnant women are now infected with HIV, and 40 percent of them are teenage girls who
have had sex with men aged 35 and over.
