If he had wanted to retire, he could have acted as a consultant for several agencies and this would
have given him a better income.

Once he had retired, he became a consultant for several organizations because he needed an
additional income.

So that his income would not drop when he retired from full-time employment, he started to work
in an advisory capacity for several organizations.

Though he has been retired for some time, he now earns twice as much as when he was in a fulltime
job, because he is working as a consultant for quite a lot of firms.

He earned less when he was in full-time employment than he does now that he is retired and
acting as a consultant for two or three firms.
