At the executive committee meeting of the company, several members have voiced their
unease at the adverse effect of the recession on profits. So, as the chairman, you want to
dispel this gloomy atmosphere, and say:

I also feel disappointed by the situation, but let’s not discuss it now.

Are you trying to tell me that the recession will continue well into next year?

I admit that sales at present are a little lower than usual, but we have every reason to expect an
increase in the second half of the year.

Are you quite sure that the figures you have been given by the several departments do really
reflect what's happening?

We must introduce stringent measures straightaway if we are to prevent a worsening of the
situation.
