You have, at short notice, called for a Department meeting to discuss a confidential matter
and reach a decision on it. At the beginning of the meeting you remind the members that, once
the meeting is over, they must never refer to the matter or discuss it with other people, So you
say:

I really had no choice but to call this meeting since issues we are going to deal with really cannot
be postponed any longer.

I'm sure it hasn't been hard for any of you to come to the meeting; as you all know, the matter
under discussion is rather personal.

First, I must thank you for coming to our routine weekly meeting: I must warn you that the main
item we are going to talk about today may upset a few of you.

I'm glad so many of you could make this meeting; let me point out first that the issue under
discussion may turn out to be very controversial

Sorry to disrupt your programmes by bringing you here now, and let me stress from the start that
there must be no leakage about the meeting.
